Stuttering Innovations has come a long way:
Below, comments from the Stuttering Innovations Pilot course in 2001.

Well here I am, a Stuttering Innovations graduate after 3 months and I have improved alot! It has been challenging, but I got through it and now my goal is to help other stutterers. I remember being filmed for my first day video and how nervous I was. (boy that felt bad) I couldn't even say my name, but now I can say my name in front of thousands of people. This course is very easy if you put in the effort and unlike other programs, this one works.

Let me tell you how it works...

Before- I couldn't put my hand up in class
NOW- I answer most questions in class

Before - I never used the phone
NOW - I call up whoever I want to.

Before - Never, ever went to the shops.
NOW - I buy the things that my family needs.

Before - Never asked people questions during the day.
NOW - I ask 30-110 people a day many different questions.

These are some of the things of which I couldn't do in the past but can do now. Looking back I remember my first public speech. I was nervous, but I said my name clearly in front of hundreds of people. Never before would I have done that.

There are training sessions which run for 10 weeks. I went to all of them and learnt a lot about stuttering and how to use my skills in everyday life. As a stuttering person I went to a heap of therapists, but none of them worked. The therapists did not know what I have been through. The coaches of Stuttering Innovations are ex-stutterers themselves, you can talk to them easier than therapists.

When I was 10, I used to think why is this happening to me? Is there a cure for stuttering? The answer and the cure is here. Take this opportunity and grasp it because it sure does help. I would like to say that the earlier you start, the better it is.

My son Josh is a recovering stutterer. We tried all the traditional methods of Speech Therapy to address his problem.

He also suffers from Dyspraxia ( a motor co-ordination problem) which hindered his success at Speech Therapy. As Josh is starting high school next year we wanted his stuttering problem to be under control. The four days that Josh spent on the Stuttering Innovations course was life altering.

The coaches have given Josh a very special and precious gift. The gift to communicate his thoughts and dreams clearly to others. Through their sensitivity and understanding Josh has developed a strong belief in himself and what he can achieve.

Eugene, Michael, Richard and the rest of the coaches not only have shown Josh the skills to overcome his stutter but have helped him become a honest friend to others.

Josh has learnt to be an effective, confident communicator, you must also be a sensitive listener. He now enjoys talking in public and on the telephone. My whole family have benefited from the experience.

We have developed wonderful and valuable friendships with the other families. Josh has become a confident speaker and if he does stutter, he uses the skills to overcome the stutter.

Dear Richard, Michael and Eugene
After Bray's graduation from your course today, we would like to try to express our enormous thanks for what you have done for him.

As you now know, Bray's stutter, whilst not as severe as some, was starting to hinder his educational development more as he grew older and, although aged only eight, his willingness to interact socially.

The frustration we felt as parents before this course was immense but, as we understand much better now, paled into insignificance with what he was feeling nearly every time he tried to speak. As non-stutterers we can really only try to imagine the fear and humiliation he and all stutterers feel in having the physical capability to communicate but not being able to do so and not knowing why or what to do about it. What you have taught him will stay with him forever. He now has the techniques that enable him to speak properly together with the belief system to apply them in home, day to day and pressure situations.

The difference in Bray's talking, confidence and just plain courage is near unbelievable. And whilst we have seen and heard claims in the past that stuttering can be cured in a few days, we know now this is not true. During the ten or so weeks of your course, the three of us received countless pieces of invaluable advice and support from you at our weekly sessions and we feel this was the main reason he learnt how to successfully and continuously apply and refine the basic techniques he learnt in the first few days. We can't thank you enough for this. In fact we found his recovery from stuttering a bit like learning to drive a car; you can pick up enough over the first couple of driving lessons to get you from a to b, but it is only constant hard work at your techniques, coordination, concentration and attitudes that turn you into a consistently competent and safe driver. Similarly also, what you taught him and us was practical and easily understood.

Just as most people learn to drive, it is a credit to you and a benefit to wider society that most people, even children, will be able to learn and apply your techniques provided they are willing to put in the effort. But it is not what you have taught him that we feel is most important, it is what you have given him. You have given him the freedom to do whatever he wants in his life and for this we will be eternally grateful. Though Bray is not yet old enough to fully appreciate this, we know without doubt he will be in the future. Both he and our family are so lucky to have had the opportunity and pleasure of your knowledge and acquaintance. Many thanks again, congratulations on a wonderful course and all the very best in the future.

We sincerely hope you are able to bring your gifts to all who need them in the wider community.
